Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS Upright Bike – Highly Durable Frame!

The Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS Upright Bike has a heavy-duty and high durability steel frame construction. Although it looks ‘skinny,’ it is a durable and robust design, supporting users up to 400 pounds (181 kg). It’s easy to fold and move around using built-in transport wheels.

The 575 XLS resistance system is a magnetic tension system, balanced flywheel, and V-belt drive, allowing 16 levels of resistance, while keeping noise low – unit can be used while watching TV, for example. Also, such a resistance system provides smooth and consistent workouts, limiting stress on the user’s joints.

The Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS console features an LCD backlit monitor, which displays exercise time, current cycling speed, traveled distance, burned calories, heart rate monitor, odometer, rpm, and watts.  Controls are easy to use, even during exercise. The heart rate monitor features contact sensors on the handles, allowing the user to monitor heart rate.

The 575 XLS features 21 preset workout programs, with three workout goals: distance, time, and burned calories. However, the burned calorie meter is not the most accurate one, but it is more than good enough to allow the users to compare burned calories from exercise to exercise.

575 XLS Frame construction

The Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS has an X-type frame made of steel tubing, combining ovalized, rectangular, and cylindrical bars in its structure.

It consists of two main parts, the one that holds the console and the handlebar, which includes two parallel bars, and the one that holds the seat and the resistance system. These two parts connect in the middle, and they come already attached.

The bike’s frame is foldable and quite portable. It is not too heavy; with all the parts assembled, it weighs only 59 lbs (26.7 kg). With the frame extended and ready to use, its footprint is approx. 39″L x 24.4″W (99 x 62 cm), while its height measures approx. 48.4″ (124 cm). Conversely, with the frame folded, its length is reduced to 26.4″ (67 cm), while its height becomes 57.5″ (146 cm).

It’s important to mention that the Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS offers quite an impressive weight capacity for a foldable upright exercise bike. It has a maximum user capacity of up to 400 lbs (181 kg). It also has a pretty low center of gravity and provides excellent stability.

Another essential element with regards to the bike’s stability is its rear base. This tube is curved and equipped with polygonal caps, which can rotate and serve as levelers. Also, the bike’s front base comes with two small wheels that facilitate its relocation.

All the metallic parts in the bike’s frame come with a chip-resistant and rust-resistant paint finish. The color used is gray, and this is the only color available for this exercise bike. The front covers of the drive system, as well as several other small covers,  are made of durable ABS material, either gray or black.

Seat and handlebars

The Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS comes with a large seat compared to other bikes. It is approx. 16″ (40 cm) wide and provides plenty of contact surface and excellent comfort. Not only that, but it also integrates 2″ (5 cm) of foam cushioning and has a sturdy vinyl upholstery.

The seat pad doesn’t have a conventional bike seat attachment system to its post, though. The seat bar has a triangular plate at the top to which the seat pad attached via three screws. Therefore, in case you will ever have to replace the seat, a standard bike seat is not compatible.

The bike’s seat is 2-way adjustable (up, down). Its post offers several adjustment holes, and the bike will accommodate users between 5’1″ and 6’5″ (155 – 196 cm).

The bike comes with a multi-grip handlebar. The side grips are fully covered by a layer of high-density foam material to provide optimal comfort. They also integrate metallic pulse sensors, so the console can monitor your heart rate if you hold on to them.

The bike’s handlebar is non-adjustable, though. It attaches to the front of the mainframe section via four bolts. Therefore, you cannot change its angle once assembled.

575 XLS Resistance and drive

The Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS features an automatic magnetic resistance system. This means you have to connect it to a 110V power source via the included adapter. Also, the console can automatically adjust the resistance depending on the current segment of the program in use.

The bike’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake and a small servo motor; both these elements come pre-assembled and secured by the ABS covers. As you select a certain level of resistance from the console, the motor will change the position of the brake to the flywheel, increasing or decreasing the magnetic pull.

The main advantage of a magnetic brake is that the brake pad itself doesn’t touch the wheel, and there is no friction between them. This leads to a very smooth and quiet pedaling motion.

This Exerpeutic exercise bike makes available 16 levels of resistance. The first few levels offer lower training difficulty, great for anyone who must undergo recovery training. The top 15-16 levels, on the other hand, provide quite a bit of extra tension, which will help you achieve a higher cardiovascular rate in a shorter period, improve your stamina, and lose some weight.

The weight of the internal flywheel is not specified, but considering that the bike doesn’t exceed 60 lbs, it is probably is around 20 lbs (9 kg). It has a perimeter-weighted structure for improved inertia, and it is also bi-directional. You can pedal in reverse if you want.

The bike has a durable crankset featuring steel crank arms. However, standing on the pedals is not recommended (it will also lead to an awkward posture). The pedals are durable nylon material. They have a weighted design and adjustable straps.

Finally, the bike’s drivetrain uses a heavy-duty poly-v belt. This type of transmission comes with a few advantages. First of all, the pedaling motion is tranquil. Second of all, you don’t have to lubricate it, and third of all, it generates less vibration than a chain.

Console

The Exerpeutic 575 XLS upright bike comes with a mid-range console. It features an LCD with blue LED backlight for superior readability. The display divides into multiple sub-sections to show all the workout metrics at once. It indicates time, distance, total distance, speed, RPM, watts, calories, and pulse.

Speed and distance can be set either to metric or English units in the console setup mode. Also, the console is not telemetric; it can only read your pulse through the sensors integrated into the handgrips. It does not work with any wireless HR transmitters.

There are 20 preset programs built-in the console, plus the manual mode. Each program has its own specific. Some are great for losing weight, others are for interval training, and others are perfect for toning muscles and building stamina.

When one of the preset programs is in use, the console will auto-adjust the resistance depending on the current segment of the program. In contrast, the manual program allows you to adjust the resistance as you like during your workout. You can also set goals for time, distance, and calories burned.

The console also has built-in Bluetooth technology. Therefore, you can sync it with your smartphone or tablet via the MyFitQuest4 available for iOS and Android systems. This app allows you to track your progress online, manage your workout goals, share your results on social media, and more.

Finally, the console also has two user profiles. Each user can input their data such as gender, weight, height, and age, as well as save their program settings from picking up where they left on their new workout session.

575 XLS Assembly and Maintenance

The frame of the bike with all the drive and resistance parts comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the base bars, the seat post, the seat, the handlebars, the console, connect the console wires, and add the pedals. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. All the necessary tools are (included), and the manual provides step-by-step assembly instructions.

The unit’s maintenance doesn’t require much. All internal components are pre-lubricated, and since the bike has a belt drive system, it pretty much doesn’t require any lubrication. Thus, for maintenance, all you have to do is wipe the dust from the frame and periodically check for loose bolts.

  1. Thank you so much for an extensive review of Exerpeutic Gold 575 XLS. I was amazed to learn this Exerpeutic exercise bike makes available 16 levels of resistance. Most bikes in this price range only have eight levels, so it’s quite a plus.

I love the fact that it is very compact, and I can fold it up. The price is affordable, as well. I will talk with my husband and convince him that we need one 🙂
