B4RB Frame Construction

Body-Solid Endurance B4RB Recumbent Bike

The Body-Solid Endurance B4RB Recumbent Bike features a heavy-duty construction designed for commercial use. Its frame combines oval and rectangular steel tubing. All the steel parts in the bike’s construction come double-coated with a black paint finish. The only exception is the chrome-plated seat rail.

The bike integrates several plastic parts as well. The monitor casing, the drive and resistance elements guards, and the backrest frame are some of the most notable. These are durable thermoplastic materials.

The fully assembled bike is relatively large. It is approximately 64″ (163 cm) long and 26″ (66 cm) wide, while the top of the monitor reaches approximately 49″ (124 cm) above the floor. Therefore, leaving at least two feet of clearance around the bike is advisable for easy access and safe usage.

And speaking of easy access, the B4RB recumbent bike features a step-through design. For instance, it allows a more accessible entry and exit or, differently put, better access to the seat. Thus, it’s quite a plus for users with disabilities.

Since it’s a commercial-grade exercise bike, the Endurance B4RB is heavy, weighing approximately 119 lbs (54 kg). Therefore, two people should carry and assemble the bike. However, one person can move the bike once completed, as its front stabilizer features transport wheels.

Seat and handlebars

The Body-Solid Endurance B4RB recumbent bike seat bottom section has contours and integrates a layer of padding for superior comfort. The backrest is a mesh-type with a flexible yet durable thermoplastic frame.

The seat is adjustable. It attaches to a steel rail sustained by two base bars which considerably improves the sturdiness of the seat. In addition, the adjustment system is lever-based, which means you can easily adjust the seat’s position while seated.

The seat’s adjustment span is pretty generous and comfortably accommodates users between 5’1″ and 6’5″ (155 – 196 cm) with no problem. Furthermore, the bike also has a maximum user weight limit of 300 lbs (136 kg).

It’s important to note that the backrest does not adjust independently from the rest of the seat. Unfortunately, it does not have a vertical slider or a reclining function.

The Endurance B4RB recumbent bike has two handlebars, one attaching to the seat and the other to the front mast. The seat handlebars integrate HR pulse sensors. In addition, the curved front handlebars lean towards the user to provide a comfortable position. Neither handlebar adjusts, and both have PVC foam grips for comfortable contact.

B4RB Resistance system

The Body-Solid Endurance B4RB recumbent bike has a motorized magnetic resistance system. Therefore, you have to connect it to a power source to power up the fitness monitor and be able to adjust the resistance. A power adapter with a cable comes with the bike.

The resistance system elements are a small servo motor and a magnetic brake integrated into the internal flywheel. The motor connects both to the fitness monitor and the magnetic brake.

Therefore, when you adjust the resistance or the monitor automatically adjusts the resistance, the motor changes the magnets’ pulls, resulting in a more incredible or lower pedaling difficulty.

There are three advantages to this type of resistance. First, the magnets don’t touch the flywheel, so there is no friction.

Second, you don’t have to worry about replacing brake pads since there is no friction. In addition, the pedaling is also very smooth and quiet. And third, the fitness monitor can control the resistance automatically, and you can use various onboard programs.

The bike offers 24 levels of resistance. The lowest level delivers a light pedaling difficulty. For instance, this tension level is excellent for anyone who wants to undergo a recovery training program. Conversely, the highest resistance level delivers a pretty impressive difficulty; it is a challenge even for the most seasoned user.

Drive system

The Endurance B4RB recumbent bike has a heavy flywheel for a recumbent bike. Its exact weight is not specified, but since the bike’s total weight is 119 lbs (54 kg), the flywheel probably weighs around 20 lbs (9 kg).

The flywheel has a balanced construction to provide superior stability and consistent momentum. It is bi-directional as well. Therefore, you can pedal in reverse and diversify your workouts.

The fitness monitor tracks your data when you pedal in reverse, and the resistance remains constant. However, coasting on this bike is impossible as the pedals continue turning for as long as the flywheel spins.

The bike comes equipped with a belt drive system. It uses a poly-v belt highly resistant to stretching and abrasion. Furthermore, the belt does not require lubrication, so you won’t have to take the bike’s front unit apart to grease the drivetrain. Also, the belt delivers smoother traction than a chain, generating slightly less vibration.

The bike has a durable crankset featuring flat steel-made crank arms with a chrome plating finish. The pedals are made of a rigid thermoplastic polymer. In addition, they have a textured surface, weight elements for self-leveling, and adjustable straps, so you can perfectly secure your feet on them if necessary.

B4RB Fitness monitor

The fitness monitor with the Body-Solid Endurance B4RB recumbent bike is similar to the older B4R version. It features a multi-window display with an LED backlight that tracks time, speed, RPM, distance, watts, calories, and pulse. The speed and distance can either be imperial or metric units.

Also, the fitness monitor can read your pulse either through the HR pulse sensors integrated into the seat’s handlebars or a wireless HR chest strap. Unfortunately, the HR chest strap does not come with the bike.

The fitness monitor does not have Bluetooth connectivity and is not compatible with any fitness app. However, it has six workout modes and multiple programs to motivate you. Each workout mode has a quick selection key on the monitor. Manual, Program, Watt, HRC, Random, and Personal.

The Manual program allows you to exercise freely, adjusting the resistance from the monitor buttons. Using this program, you can also set time, distance, or calorie goals.

The Program mode covers 12 preset programs with various segment layouts, from hills and peaks to intervals. Finally, the Watt mode requires you to set a watt value to maintain during the workout.

The HRC mode has four heart rate programs, three preset for 55%, 75%, and 90% HR, while the fourth is custom. In addition, the Random mode will randomly create a program every time you initiate it.

And finally, the Personal mode has five user profiles; each user can input their data (age, gender, height, weight) for better calorie and overall data monitoring.

B4RB Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. The drive and resistance components are also pre-attached to the frame. Thus, you only need to add the two base bars, the pedals, the seat, the front mast, the handlebars, and the fitness monitor.

Therefore, it may take more than an hour of your time, but the whole task is pretty straightforward. Also, the manual provides clear assembly instructions and schematics.

For maintenance, you only have to keep the bike clean, periodically check for loose bolts and parts, and retighten them as needed. The drive and resistance mechanism do not require lubrication or other maintenance.

  1. My doctor advised regular exercise after a lab test detected diabetes. This particular model was in my apartment complex gym. I start with a cup of coffee and ride it for 25-30 min before I switch to other equipment.

It is an absolute get-go exercise bike for you to have in your home or gym. It is not that hard to assemble either.

It is sturdy and can last years. It is adjustable to your height, and I enjoy the ergonomic backrest.

You set your goals and your distance, calorie, and heart rate.

It was fun to read a book while sitting and riding the bike. I also carry my music to enjoy if I want and never miss the absence of the port.

Great In-Home Warranty: Frame lifetime / Parts 5 years / Electronics 2 years / Wear parts 6 months / and more.

It doesn’t need maintenance. For $1500, it looks like a steal, which you can pay $60.45 for 36 months.

  2. Yeh, I like the look of this bike. It is a bit different and not something I have seen before. I like the way you can sit down and still peddle; it reminds me of a rowing machine, which is a machine that I like.

I would probably buy this bike. It seems durable, different, and a great way to stay in shape from the comfort of my own home.

  3. A recumbent bike makes it very easy to get on and off the bike, especially for those with a disability. Unfortunately, there are not many recumbent bikes that have a seat adjustment span that can comfortably accommodate users between 5’1″ and 6’5″. However, the Body-Solid Endurance B4RB bike is suitable for tall and short users.

The 24-level motorized magnetic resistance system, a fitness monitor with six workout modes and 21 workout programs, is impressive. However, it is a pity that it doesn’t offer online connectivity or a USB charging point.

  4. Hey Robert,

The ergonomic design of this recumbent bike distributes the rider’s weight comfortably. In addition, the mesh seat back keeps your body cool during intense workouts, which is every rider’s dream.

But what I’ve found most interesting about this Recumbent bike is that it perfectly works your hamstrings and lower legs.

If riding a bike sounds intimidating to anyone, consider using a recumbent bike. This type of bike is a cardiovascular machine that gives you a similar workout to a regular exercise bike.

Thanks so much for this great review.
