AMZ-594U Frame Construction

The Circuit Fitness AMZ-594U upright bike features a sturdy steel frame with ABS covers for the drive and resistance elements. It has a compact structure with a relatively small footprint of 37.5″ long (95 cm) and 22″ (56 cm) wide. However, leaving at least two feet of clearance all around it is advisable for safe usage.

The main body of the bike has a step-through design. Not all upright bikes have this feature, so it’s quite a plus, especially for users with disabilities or the elderly, making it easier to mount or dismount the seat.

The bike’s net weight is not specified, but considering its shipping weight is 79 lbs (35.8 kg), it probably weighs more than 70 lbs (31.7 kg). Thus, it is considerably more than the average road bike weighs. Furthermore, it has a low center of gravity, which adds a lot of stability.

Both base tubes of the bike come with adjustable levelers. They allow you to stabilize the unit on any floor correctly. In addition, the levelers rest on rubber pads that improve the unit’s grip on the floor, preventing sliding. Therefore, placing and using the bike on a mat is not necessary.

The front base bar comes with transport wheels. Although the bike is not heavy, it still improves its portability. For instance, using the wheels, you won’t have to handle more than 50% of its total weight.

Finally, all the metallic bars in the bike’s composition have a powder coating with a durable black paint finish.

Seat and handlebars

The Circuit Fitness AMZ-594U upright bike includes a saddle designed for extra comfort. First, it integrates approximately 1.4″ (3.5 cm) foam cushioning, a bit more than some other bikes. In addition, the top cover is durable, double-stitched faux leather.

It is contoured for extra breathability. It is also relatively large, approx 10.5″ (26.6 cm) wide and 11″ (28 cm) long, offering plenty of contact surface.

The saddle has a standard (collar-based) attachment system. In particular, this is a plus because compatible options are widely available if you need to replace them.

The bike’s seat offers 4-way adjustability (up, down, front, back). Its vertical post features nine adjustment positions and provides a total adjustment span of 10″ (25 cm), from 28″ (71 cm) above floor level to 38″ (96.5 cm). Furthermore, its slider offers approximately 4″ (10 cm) front-to-back adjustment.

Therefore, the bike should accommodate users up to 6’5″ (196 cm) with no problem. In addition, the seat can support users up to 300 lbs (136 kg).

The AMZ-594U upright bike comes with a multi-grip handlebar. In addition, it is fully rubberized to provide a superior grip and extra comfort. Furthermore, its side grips incorporate metallic HR pulse sensors, and the fitness monitor has a pulse reading function.

The bike’s handlebar is adjustable. It attaches to the vertical post via a knob, which allows you to adjust its angle. Unfortunately, the vertical position of the handlebar is non-adjustable.

AMZ-594U Drive and resistance

The Circuit Fitness AMZ-594U upright bike has an automatic magnetic resistance system (or eddy current brake). Therefore, it requires a connection to a power outlet, and an adapter comes with the bike. In addition, it also means that the monitor can automatically adjust the bike’s resistance, depending on the user program.

The bike’s resistance system consists of an internal magnetic brake and a servo motor. As you adjust the fitness monitor’s resistance, the brake increases the magnets’ pull, which increases the pedaling load.

Like the recumbent version, the AMZ-594U exercise bike has 24 resistance settings. The first few levels offer a light pedaling difficulty that is great for users who require recovery training. Conversely, tension levels above 20 deliver considerably more resistance simulating a steep climb.

Most magnetic exercise bikes have a belt drive system, and the AMZ-594U is no exception. It has a poly-v drive belt delivers a smooth and quiet pedaling motion. Furthermore, since it’s a belt drive and not a chain, it does not require lubrication.

The internal flywheel weight is not specified. However, it should be around 20 lbs (9 kg), considering the bike’s overall weight. It has a balanced structure for extra inertia and a steady pedaling feel. In addition, it is also bi-directional, so you can pedal reverse if you want.

The bike’s crankset comes with solid steel arms. However, standing on the pedals is not advisable since this is an upright bike, even if it can support your weight with no problem. Furthermore, the pedals are made of ABS material, and too much pressure may damage them.

On the other hand, the pedals are self-leveling; they also have adjustable straps and a textured surface for improved foot stability.

Fitness monitor

The Circuit Fitness AMZ-594U upright bike features a fitness monitor with an LED backlight that tracks multiple workout metrics, including time, distance, RPM, speed, watts, calories, and pulse. The speed and distance are either in metric or Imperial units.

Unfortunately, it is not telemetric and does not have a Bluetooth function. So, to track your pulse, you must hold on to the HR pulse sensors integrated into the handlebars.

The fitness monitor is incompatible with any fitness app but offers 15 distinct workout programs. The first one is Manual mode. The Manual mode allows you to choose workout targets for time, distance, calories, and pulse if selected.

The following 12 workout programs divide into Beginner, Advanced, and Sporty, and each one has four preset programs. Their workout profiles are on the console section right above the screen.

The 14th and 15th programs are for Cardio and Watts. The Cardio program has three preset HRC values (55%, 75%, and 90%) and allows you to set a custom HRC value. The Watts program is for constant work and great for losing weight and toning muscles.

A Recovery function and a BMI program are also available. They both have quick selection controls on the console. The BMI function calculates your body fat percentage based on height, weight, and gender input. Therefore, this is not bad if you want to watch your weight loss progress.

The Recovery function helps you establish your fitness level. It measures the time it takes your pulse to return to normal after the workout, and, based on the result, it will rate your performance between F1 (excellent) and F6 (poor).

Amenities

Apart from the workout programs and the aforementioned fitness-oriented features, the monitor also has several amenities. First, it integrates two speakers to connect your smartphone or tablet so you can listen to your music through the speakers.

The top side of the monitor has a foldable tablet holder. On the lower section, there is a cup or bottle holder. And finally, a USB charging port for your device is also available.

AMZ-594U Assembly and Maintenance

The bike’s base unit comes pre-assembled. Thus, you only have to attach the two base bars, the front upright bar, the fitness monitor, the handlebars, the pedals, the seat post, and the seat.

Consequently, the task is straightforward and shouldn’t take more than an hour. The manual provides clear assembly instructions, and a set of essential tools also comes with the bike.

Once fully assembled, you only have to keep it clean, periodically check for potential loose parts, and retighten them as needed. The internal components do not require any lubrication.

  1. I love the adjustable seat and the fact of having 15 programs pre-loaded. I hate having to program routines myself. Being highly portable and light-weighting is also a plus. Not having online connectivity is not a big deal to me; getting it in front of my smart TV and problem solved.

The two years of warranty is excellent for this type of equipment (2 years is enough to define if it’d be right for you for the following 20 years ahead).

Thanks for a great and very complete review!

  2. You got me with this article. My brother had a football accident and suffered a ligament rupture on his right knee. After six months in which he didn’t move, he must now start the recovery period. The doctor recommended that he come to the hospital and use the bikes from the hospital’s gym. Because the hospital is very far away, I would like to buy him this equipment. You have given a helpful review on the Circuit Fitness AMZ-594U Magnetic Upright Exercise Bike with 15 preset workout programs. The price of $ 319.99 is meager, considering its benefits. I hope to help my brother with this.

I wish you all the best!

  3. In my opinion, it looks neat and is a nicely designed bike. In addition, I liked that the console has a device holder, which is thoughtful.

However, having Bluetooth is not essential to me. I need the calories burned and distance info. The other stuff is not too important.

Overall, it is reasonably priced and not an overly complicated designed bike.

  4. I appreciate the adjustable seat and the pre-loaded 15 programs very much. I don’t particularly enjoy having to create my routines. Being extremely lightweight and portable is also a benefit.

I don’t think it’s a big issue if I can’t access the internet. Bluetooth is not necessary for me. However, I do require distance and calories burnt data. The rest is not significant.
