D3 Frame construction

The RHYTHM FUN D3 is an exercise bike made for spin workouts, so it has a pretty sturdy construction. Its oval steel tubing frame comes double-coated with a corrosion-resistant white paint finish. The seat and handlebar posts have a gray paint finish, and the flywheel is chrome-plated.

The bike also integrates several plastic parts. For example, the side covers of the flywheel, the guards of the magnetic brake, and the belt guard are durable thermoplastic materials.

The bike’s frame features a triangular design for improved sturdiness. It also has a step-up bar, a small tube welded to the seat tube, and the main oblique frame tube. Not all spin bikes have this feature. Also, this particular tube can help with mounting, dismounting, stretching, and a variety of other exercises; it improves the overall frame sturdiness.

The bike is not too large. With all the parts assembled, it is 44″ (112 cm) long and 22″ (56 cm) wide. It is advisable to allow two feet of clearance all around it for easy access. So, the minimum usage area is approximately 90″L x 60″W (228 x 152 cm).

Furthermore, the bike is not super heavy. Its net weight is approx—77 lbs (35 kg). Therefore, one person can carry and assemble the bike. Also, once completed, it is easy to move as its front base bar has a set of transport wheels.

Seat and handlebars

The RHYTHM FUN D3 indoor cycling bike comes equipped with a pretty standard saddle. It is a nylon shell with a high-density closed-cell foam top cover, and it has a median groove for improved breathability.

It does not have suspensions for extra shock absorption but still provides decent comfort. Also, it has a standard collar-type attachment system, so you can easily find replacements for it if needed, and you can also tilt it slightly.

The seat assembly is four-way adjustable (up, down, front, back). Its vertical post offers approx. 8.5″ (21.5 cm) of adjustment, from 34.25″ to 42.93″ (87 – 109 cm).

In addition, its horizontal slider adds a few inches of front-to-back adjustment. Therefore, the bike comfortably accommodates users between 5’0″ and 6’5″ (153 – 196 cm) with no problem, allowing for a complete leg extension for any user within this height range. In addition, it also has a maximum user weight limit of 300 lbs (136 kg).

The bike’s handlebar has a multi-grip design. It offers the possibility of adopting a climbing grip, an off-road grip, an aero grip, and a close one.

Unfortunately, unlike the seat, it is only 2-way adjustable. It does not have a horizontal slider for front-to-back adjustment. Its vertical post has five adjustment positions, with an adjustment span of approx—4″ (10 cm).

The handlebar is entirely rubberized, providing a comfortable and secure grip. However, it does not have integrated HR pulse sensors. In addition, the fitness monitor does not have a pulse tracking function. Therefore, it cannot track HR pulse using a wireless device.

D3 Resistance system

The RHYTHM FUN D3 indoor cycling bike features a manual magnetic resistance system. Therefore, you don’t need a power adapter or power cable. The resistance adjustment is entirely manual, but unfortunately, this also means that the included fitness monitor cannot adjust the resistance automatically and does not have preset programs.

The bike’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake that connects to the frame above the flywheel and conceals by two large ABS guards. The tension knob on top of the frame attaches to the brake. Therefore, when you turn this knob clockwise, the magnets move closer to the flywheel, increasing or decreasing the pedaling difficulty.

The bike’s resistance system also has an emergency brake feature. The magnetic brake pad has a small felt pad at the front. Therefore, if you press the adjustment knob, the felt pad will contact the flywheel and stop it from spinning.

The tension knob does not have pre-determined resistance settings on it. Thus, you turn it right or left until the bike provides the resistance level you want. But as a general idea, with the magnets at their closest point to the flywheel, the cycle offers a decent resistance, simulating a steep hill climb.

The main advantage of the magnetic brake is that the magnets do not touch the flywheel, which leads to a very smooth flywheel motion. Also, the bike generates very little noise when in use, and since the magnets do not touch the flywheel, there is virtually no wear and tear on the brake pad.

Drive system

This RHYTHM FUN exercise bike comes equipped with a reasonably heavy flywheel. It weighs 35 lbs (15.8 kg) and has a perimeter-weighted design, and this type of construction provides more aggressive inertia and a more stable pedaling motion. Most bikes in spinning classes feature flywheels with a similar structure.

Unfortunately, the RHYTHM FUN D3 does not allow coasting. However, pedaling in reverse is possible; therefore, you can alternate forward with backward pedaling sessions.

The bike comes equipped with a heavy-duty crankset. Its arms are similar to those on road bikes; they’re steel-made and have a chrome-plating finish. The pedals are not metallic, but they’re a heavy-duty nylon material, so they can hold you even while standing up with no problem.

Unfortunately, they do not have SPD clips, only toe cages. However, they have standard 9/16″ threads, so compatible replacements are widely available if you ever want or need to change them.

The bike’s drive system uses a multi-groove rubber belt. This type of transmission comes with a few advantages. First of all, you don’t ever have to lubricate it. Second of all, it delivers an extraordinarily smooth pedaling motion. And lastly, it generates almost no noise when it is in use.

D3 Fitness monitor

The RHYTHM FUN D3 indoor cycling bike comes equipped with a simple fitness monitor. It features an LCD that tracks time, speed, distance, total distance, and calories burned. Unfortunately, it does not have a pulse reading function.

Furthermore, the bike does not have Bluetooth connectivity or any preset programs, and it is not compatible with any fitness apps.  However, it does have a goal-setting function.

Its Set button offers the possibility to select a workout goal for time, distance, or calories burned. After choosing a goal, the monitor will count down from the desired value as you pedal until you have completed your goal.

The monitor’s Mode button covers the selection function. You can repeatedly press it to select the workout metric you want to view on display.

In addition, you can also set the Scan Mode, which automatically rotates all the metrics showing each one for a few seconds. Finally, the Reset button clears all the values on the monitor to zero, except for the odometer.

The fitness monitor is battery-powered, and it requires two AA batteries which come included. It begins tracking your data when you start pedaling. It also automatically turns off if it does not detect flywheel movement for more than four minutes.

D3 Assembly and Maintenance

The bike’s mainframe comes pre-assembled, with the magnetic brake, the flywheel, the crankset, and the attached belt. Therefore, you only have to add the two base bars, the seat, the handlebar, the pedals, and the fitness monitor.

Consequently, it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes of your time. All the necessary tools come with the bike, and the manual provides precise assembly instructions.

The bike’s maintenance doesn’t require much. You have to keep it clean, wipe the sweat that might fall onto the frame at the end of the workout, and periodically check for loose bolts and parts and retighten them. The drive system does not require any maintenance.
