SF-B1964 Frame Construction

Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 Indoor Cycling Bike

The Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 indoor cycling bike features a pretty standard triangular frame construction. Its rectangular steel tubing comes double-coated with a corrosion-resistant dark gray paint finish, while the seat and the handlebar posts are black.

Like most other spin bikes, the Sunny SF-B1964 is not a large fitness machine. However, with all the parts assembled, it is approximately 48.8″ (124 cm) long and 20.1″ (51 cm) wide, while its highest point, with the handlebar extended up, is 49.2″ (125 cm).

The bike is relatively heavy, weighing 105.4 lbs (48 kg). Therefore, two people should carry and assemble the bike. However, once completed, one person can move the bike as its front base bar features two large transport wheels.

However, on the other hand, this impressive weight considerably improves the bike’s overall stability. It also has a low center of gravity, which adds to its stability. In addition, both base bars come equipped with adjustable stabilizers.

Last, the bike has a step-up element: the short horizontal bar at the base of the seat tube. Not all spin bikes have this element, so it is quite a plus as it can help with mounting and dismounting and is a support point for stretching and other exercises.

Seat and handlebars

The Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 indoor cycling bike has a four-way adjustable (up, down, front, back) seat. In addition, its vertical post features several adjustment positions, while its horizontal slider adds a few extra inches of front-to-back adjustment.

Thus, the bike comfortably accommodates users between 5’0″ and 6’4″ (153 – 193 cm). In addition, it also has a maximum user weight limit of 275 lbs (125 kg) which is not bad for a home-use bike.

The included saddle provides superior comfort. It is a durable nylon shell with a thick layer of foam cushioning, and it has contours with a large cutout in the middle for improved breathability. In addition, its attachment system is collar-based, allowing for a bit of angle adjustment and making it easy to replace with compatible options widely available.

The Sunny SF-B1964 exercise bike comes equipped with a multi-grip handlebar. It offers the possibility of adopting a standard grip, a cruising grip, a climbing grip, and a close one. In addition, it also has a long loop bar in the middle for an aero grip and a close parallel grip.

The handlebar comes with a layer of PVC foam for an improved grip. Its side grips integrate HR pulse sensors, and the fitness monitor has a pulse reading function.

Unfortunately, it is only two-way adjustable (up, down); it does not have a horizontal slider like the seat for front-back adjustment.

SF-B1964 Drive system

The Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 indoor cycling bike comes equipped with a 40-pound (18 kg) flywheel, which is also perimeter-weighted to provide superior inertia and consistent momentum.

For instance, this type of flywheel construction is excellent for spin workouts, and due to its weight, exercising on this bike improves your stamina and leg muscle strength.

The flywheel allows reverse pedaling, allowing you to add diversity to your workouts by alternating forward and backward pedaling. However, coasting on the bike is impossible as the pedals continue turning while the flywheel spins.

Also, when pedaling in reverse, you will get the same resistance as when pedaling forward, and the fitness monitor keeps track of your distance, speed, etc.

The bike comes with a belt drive system. It integrates a highly resistant to stretching poly-v belt designed for improved traction. A belt drivetrain comes with two main advantages. One, you don’t have to lubricate it. And two, it generates slightly less vibration than a chain, so the pedaling motion is very smooth.

Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 Indoor Cycling Bike

The bike’s crankset features solid steel and oval arms painted black. The pedals are aluminum alloy, durable, and withstand any spin workout, even if the user is close to the maximum weight limit (275 lbs).

Unfortunately, the pedals don’t have SPD clips for spin shoes, but they have toe cages. Furthermore, their threads are 9/16″, so compatible options are widely available if you need to replace them.

Resistance system

The Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 indoor cycling bike has a manual magnetic resistance system. Therefore, you don’t need to connect it to a power source, and you don’t need a power adapter or power cord for it. However, the bike cannot adjust the resistance automatically.

The bike’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake attached under the main oblique tube of the bike and to the tension knob. Therefore, when you turn the knob clockwise, the magnetic brake pad moves closer to the flywheel, which increases the pedaling difficulty.

The main advantage of a magnetic brake is that the brake pad does not touch the flywheel. Thus, the pedaling motion is drag-free, seamless, and whisper-quiet.

The bike’s tension knob does not have pre-determined resistance levels. However, a wide range exists between the lowest and highest resistance. So there is a bit of difficulty even on the lowest setting as a general idea.

Conversely, when the magnets are close to the flywheel, the bike simulates a steep climb and will offer quite a challenge even to the most seasoned users.

In addition, the bike’s resistance system can act as an emergency brake. For example, if you need to stop the flywheel from spinning, you can press the tension knob. The emergency braking feature is essential as controlling the flywheel from the pedals with your feet is not advisable and can lead to injuries.

SF-B1964 Fitness monitor

The Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 indoor cycling bike has a simple fitness monitor. It features an LCD (without a backlight) that tracks time, distance, total distance, speed, calories burned, RPM, and pulse. Unfortunately, the speed and distance are only in Imperial units (MPH and miles); there is no option for setting them to metric units.

The pulse reading function is hand-grip only. Therefore, the monitor cannot read your pulse from a wireless transmitter, only if you hold on to the HR pulse sensors integrated into the handlebar.

In addition, the monitor lacks pre-set programs, goal settings, or online connectivity. Furthermore, it has one button, which covers two functions.

By pressing it repeatedly, you can select the workout metric you want to view on display or select the scan mode, which automatically rotates all the metrics. You can also press and hold it for a few seconds to reset all the values to zero.

The battery-powered fitness monitor requires two AAA batteries which come with the bike. When you pedal or press the button, it monitors your workout data. In addition, it also automatically turns off if it does not detect any activity on the bike for more than four minutes.

Assembly and Maintenance

The mainframe of the Sunny SF-B1964 comes pre-assembled. The flywheel, the belt, the crankset, and the magnetic brake are pre-installed. However, you must attach the two base stabilizers, the pedals, the seat, the handlebars, and the fitness monitor.

Consequently, it shouldn’t take more than 40 minutes of your time. The bike has all the necessary assembly tools, and the manual provides clear step-by-step assembly instructions.

For maintenance, you only have to keep the bike clean. The drivetrain does not require lubrication since it has a belt drive system. Also, since the brake is magnetic, it doesn’t require lubrication or replacement. So, besides keeping the bike clean, you only have to check for loose bolts and parts and retighten them as needed.

  1. I have enjoyed using a stationary bike for years. However, I have never used one with a magnetic flywheel.  You wrote about that feature adding stability.  What kind of flooring works best with the base of the bike?  I ask because my bike moves a bit when pedaled fast.  Thanks for the detailed review.

    • Hi Anastazja, thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us. The Sunny SF-B1964 features adjustable stabilizers on its base bars for leveling the bike. A level floor works best for stability. In addition, the weight and low center of gravity of the bike add to stability.

Would you please let me know if I can assist you further with the Sunny SF-B1964 or any other exercise equipment? I’m always happy to help.

      Kind regards, Robert

  2. I had been in the market for a stationary bike.  I got a Schwinn that I am not happy with and find myself not using.  The Sunny Pro II looks like more my style for about the same price I paid.  Now I need to get rid of this one I have.  I had good intentions, but since I don’t like the way it rides, it is time to sell and get something more workable like this Sunny Pro!

  3. I have always enjoyed cycling both indoors and outdoors. That is because I find it very relaxing and helps with my energy. However, I have always had trouble finding the right bike for myself and my needs with exercise bikes. Will this help with my weight loss goals? Not all cycle bikes do that. In the end, this looks like a bike that fits my needs, and I would use it. So thanks again.

  4. It’s been months since I started my home gym, and I’ve yet to find a good cycling bike; believe me, I’ve searched everywhere, and it is the first time I’ve come across the Sunny Pro II. I have to be honest and admit that it isn’t really what I had in mind, but from what I could gather from this review, it offers everything that I need in an indoor cycling bike, so heck, I might as well give this one a try. Thank you for the suggestion!

  5. Superb information here on the Sunny Pro II SF-B1964 Indoor Cycling Bike. I have a trusted treadmill running on its last leg and was thinking I would eventually need to get a replacement.

I was thinking about a stationary bike when I ran across your article.

I think the device, bottle, and dumbbell holders are very convenient. I also like its small size because I am not interested in bulky pieces.

  6. I was checking out the Sunny Pro II SF-B1964. This beast has a 40-pound flywheel! With a magnetic resistance system and a comfy seat, not bad. I like that the fitness monitor tracks all the necessary metrics, but unfortunately, the speed and distance are displayed in MPH. Moving on, it’s cool that the assembly is easy, but the bike is quite heavy. So I will need a handy friend to help me to move it. Nevertheless, it seems like an excellent option for a home gym.
