SF-B2906 Frame Construction

The Sunny SF-B2906 features a steel frame combining cylindrical, rectangular, and oval tubes in its construction. However, this Sunny exercise bike’s most striking feature is the long front upright bar, aiming to provide a healthier position even for the tallest users.

All the steel tubes in the bike’s construction come double-coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish, light gray. The covers of the drive and resistance elements are made of thermoplastic material; they’re also gray to match the bike’s rest.

Like many light-capacity upright bikes, the Sunny SF-B2906 is not a bulky fitness machine. With all the parts assembled, it is only 35″ (89 cm) long and 20.5″ (52 cm) wide. Also, its highest point is the handlebar, which reaches approximately 51.5″ (131 cm) above floor level. Therefore, leaving at least two feet of clearance around the bike is advisable for easy access and safe usage.

For example, the bike has no step-through design, such as the Circuit Fitness AMZ-594U. However, stepping over its drive and resistance unit and taking a position on the seat shouldn’t be too difficult because the section between the seat tube and the front upright tube is only approx. 15″ (38 cm) above floor level.

The fully assembled bike is relatively light as well. Its net weight is only 43.4 lbs (19.6 kg). Therefore, one person can carry and build it. Once assembled, the bike is accessible via two transport wheels integrated into the front base stabilizer. Also, its rear stabilizer features two polygonal caps that can rotate to serve as floor levelers.

Seat and handlebars

The Sunny SF-B2906 upright exercise bike includes a reasonably large saddle, approx. 11″ (28 cm) long and 10″ (25.4 cm) wide, so it provides plenty of contact surface. Its top is a hard plastic shell with a high-density foam cover. Its body is contoured to provide extra breathability.

The seat features a 3-bolt attachment system. Its post features a triangular plate at the top to which the saddle attaches via three bolts. The seat has no horizontal slider for front-to-back adjustment, but its vertical post has nine adjustment positions.

Thus, the bike can comfortability accommodate users with an inseam between 25.5″ and 35″ (65 – 89 cm). In other words, it fits users up to 6’3″ (190 cm), allowing for a complete range of motion. It also has a maximum user weight capacity of 240 lbs (109 kg).

The bike comes equipped with a 3-grip handlebar. It offers the possibility of adopting a climbing grip, a standard parallel grip, and a low one. The handlebar is non-adjustable. It attaches to the bike’s front mast via two screws to not adjust its angle or height.

The bike’s handlebar comes equipped with two metallic pulse sensors. They integrate into the lower grips. Also, the bike’s grips feature high-density foam covers for optimal comfort.

SF-B2906 Resistance system

The Sunny SF-B2906 upright bike comes equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. Therefore, you don’t need an adapter or a power source to adjust the resistance. On the other hand, the bike cannot automatically adjust the resistance, and the included fitness monitor does not have pre-set workout programs.

The main resistance elements are the tension knob visible at the top of the front upright bar and an internal magnetic brake connected to it through a steel cable. Therefore, when you turn the knob, the magnetic brake moves closer or farther from the flywheel, increasing or decreasing the pedaling difficulty.

The bike makes available eight tension levels. The first is relatively light and great for recovery training, workout warm-ups, or muscle toning. The 8th tension level provides considerably more pedaling difficulty, simulating a hill climb and offering the possibility to burn more calories.

The bike comes with a perimeter-weighted flywheel. This type of construction improves motion stability and inertia, providing a more consistent pedaling feel. However, the flywheel is not too heavy. Its exact weight is not specified, but considering that the bike weighs more than 43.4 lbs (19.6 kg), the flywheel probably weighs approximately 10 lbs (4.5 kg).

The flywheel is bi-directional. Thus, you can pedal in reverse to diversify your workouts. However, coasting is impossible on this bike, and when pedaling in reverse, you should get the same pedaling resistance. At the same time, the fitness monitor continues to track distance traveled, calories, etc.

Drive system

Like most other magnetic resistance exercise bikes, the Sunny SF-B2906 model has a belt drivetrain.

Therefore, you don’t need to take the bike’s drive components apart to lubricate the drivetrain; a belt does not require lubrication. The belt drive system also contributes to the ride’s overall smoothness, generating less vibration than a chain.

The bike’s crankset features short, cylindrical arms, steel-made and chrome plated. However, it’s not for spin workouts, so standing on the pedals is not advisable. The pedals are made of durable thermoplastic material with adjustable straps and a textured surface for improved foot stability. They also have a self-leveling design.

SF-B2906 Fitness Monitor

The Sunny SF-B2906 upright bike comes with a reasonably simple fitness monitor. It features an LCD that tracks time, distance, total distance, speed, calories burned, and pulse. Unfortunately, there is no option for changing the speed and distance displayed in MPH and miles to metric units.

Also, the monitor is not telemetric. You’ll have to hold on to the integrated pulse sensors to track your pulse. Unfortunately, it cannot communicate with a wireless HR chest strap.

The fitness monitor has three buttons. The Mode button allows you to scroll through the workout metrics and select the one you want to view on display. It also offers the possibility to choose the Scan Mode, which rotates all the metrics showing each one for 6 seconds.

The Set button covers the target setting function. It allows you to select a workout target for time, distance, and calories.

Sunny SF-B2906 Upright Bike

When choosing a target, the monitor counts down from the specified value until it reaches zero. And finally, the Reset button clears all the values on the monitor except the odometer, which resets to zero if you remove the batteries.

The monitor requires two AAA batteries, which come with the bike, as its power source. It starts when you press one of the buttons or begin pedaling. It also automatically turns off after 4 minutes of inactivity on the bike.

Amenities

The device holder and the heart rate zone sticker are two other notable features to note here. The device holder consists of a small shelf placed above the display. However, it is large enough to accommodate most tablets and smartphones.

However, the fitness monitor does not have a USB or other ports to connect your device. The HR sticker is a nice touch if you want to keep it in a specific BPM zone without consulting the manual.

SF-B2906 Assembly and Maintenance

The bike’s central unit with the base frame, belt, crankset, flywheel, and resistance system comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the two base stabilizers, the pedals, the seat post, the saddle, the front upright bar, the handlebars, and the fitness console.

Therefore, it shouldn’t take more than an hour of your time. In addition, the task is relatively simple, the manual provides clear assembly instructions, and all the necessary tools come with the bike.

Once assembled, you don’t have to worry too much about maintenance. The internal parts and the drive train don’t require any lubrication. So, you only have to keep the bike clean and periodically check if all the parts still function correctly and hold tight in place.

  1. I like that we do not have to take the bike’s drive components apart to lubricate the drivetrain with this bike. I know that recent models have been incorporating this, but I had a bike that was not so. It took me a bit more time than usual to lubricate back then because that bike had a particular arrangement that was not very practical.

    • Hi Paolo, thanks for stopping and sharing your thoughts with us. Most bikes today don’t require anything to be done to the drivetrain. Are you looking for some exercise equipment to use at home? Please let me know if you are; I’d be happy to help out.

      Kind regards, Robert

  2. Good Morning!

Thank you for this review on the Sunny SF-B2906 Upright Bike.  I like that it does not require lubrication due to the drivetrain, that it is tranquil, the eight resistance levels, and the fitness monitor that tracks your workouts. However, I am not sure about the non-adjustable handlebar.

I have never used an exercise bike with upright handlebars.  Could you please tell me the benefits of the upright handlebars vs. regular handlebars?

Thank you, and have a great day!

    • Hi Nettie, thanks for stopping by. The benefit of the upright handlebar is that it offers the possibility of adopting a climbing grip, a standard parallel grip, and a low one. It might not be for everyone. I’d be happy to give you some suggestions based on your requirements. Would you please let me know if I can be of any assistance?

      Kind regards, Robert
