SF-B2916 Frame Construction
The Sunny SF-B2916 air-resistance bike features a metallic gray steel frame with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The bike’s construction also integrates several ABS parts. For example, the cover of the drive system and the flywheel are ABS made.
This Sunny exercise bike does not have a folding frame but has a reasonably small footprint. It is 40″ (102 cm) long and 23″ (58 cm) wide, so it should fit pretty well even in a small room. It is advisable, though, to leave at least two feet of clearance on each side of the bike, and at least one foot at the front and rear, for safe usage and ease of access.
The fully assembled bike isn’t too heavy. It weighs approx. 60.6 lbs (27.4 kg). Therefore, it can be carried and assembled by only one person.
The rear base bar of the bike is curved to provide extra stability. It also has polygonal caps that can rotate and act as levelers. Also, the front base of the cycle features two small wheels for easy transportation.
One last essential aspect to note here is that the Sunny SF-B2916 has a set of footrests, a helpful feature that other fan bikes don’t have. These are attached to the front supporting frame tubes and allow you to rest your legs while using the bike’s mobile arms.
Seat and handlebars
The Sunny SF-B2916 air-resistance bike comes with a standard saddle. It is 10″ (25.4 cm) long and 11″ (28 cm) wide. It does not have air cell cushioning but does integrate a layer of padding. Also, its surface has a longitudinal contoured groove for improved breathability. Therefore, the included seat offers optimal comfort.
The saddle features a standard, collar-based attachment system to the slider. Therefore, compatible options are widely available if you ever need or want to replace them.
The bike’s seat offers 4-way adjustability (front, back, up, down). In addition, the upright post offers several adjustment positions, while the horizontal slider also allows a few inches of front-to-back adjustment.
It fits users with an inseam between 27″ and 37″ (68.5 – 93.8 cm); in other words, it should accommodate users between 5’2 ″ and 6’2 ″ (157 – 188 cm) with no problem. It also supports users up to 265 lbs (120.2 kg).
Like most other fan bikes, the Sunny SF-B2916 only has mobile handlebars. It does not have a stationary handlebar set. The mobile handlebars also connect directly to the pedal bars, so they continue to move for as long as you pedal. However, they cannot remain in a stationary position.
SF-B2916 Drive and resistance
The Sunny SF-B2916, an air-resistance bike, is equipped with a dual transmission using a belt and a chain. The chain is attached to the crank system and a small pulley, while the belt is attached to the small pulley and the bike’s fan. This dual transmission leads to a smoother pedaling motion and a slightly more incredible pedaling difficulty.
The bike features a pretty durable crankset with solid steel arms. However, it’s an upright bike, so it is not advisable to stand on the pedals during workouts. The pedals are durable, but they’re made of nylon material, not aluminum, so they may not hold standing-up routines.
On the other hand, the pedals have a weighted design; they always turn face-up if you remove your feet from them. They also have adjustable straps for extra foot stability.
Since it’s an air resistance bike, the main (and only) resistance-generating element is the fan visible at the bike’s front. Unfortunately, the cycle has no magnetic resistance elements, so you cannot adjust the bike’s overall resistance. Also, the console has no preset workout programs and cannot change the resistance automatically.
But on the other hand, the bike provides a dynamic response. In other words, if you pedal and move its arms at a faster rate, the resistance generated by the fan will also increase.
Finally, it is essential to mention that the bike’s fan does generate a certain level of noise, especially when you pedal at a fast rate. However, the noise generated is not extremely loud. Instead, it’s comparable to the sound generated by a massive electric fan.
The Sunny SF-B2916, an air-resistance bike, comes equipped with a simple fitness monitor. Unfortunately, it does not have any preset workout programs, nor is it compatible with any fitness apps. Instead, it features an LCD indicating time, distance, total distance, speed, and calories burned.
The monitor does not have a pulse reading function, and the bike does not integrate pulse sensors. Thus, you must use a separate device to track your pulse during your workouts. Also, speed and distance can be Metric (km/h and km) or English units (mph and miles).
The fitness monitor is pretty easy to use. It has three buttons – Mode, Set, and Reset. The Mode button allows you to select one of the workout metrics you want to view on display, or the Scan Mode, which rotates all the workout metrics, showing each one for a few seconds. The Set button allows you to set up countdown values for time, distance, and calories burned. And finally, the Reset button clears all the values on the monitor to zero.
The monitor requires two AAA batteries as its power source. It starts up when you press the Mode button or when you begin pedaling. It also automatically shuts down if it doesn’t detect any activity on the bike for four minutes.
The ABS casing of the monitor integrates a tablet holder, which is large enough to accommodate any tablet. However, it does not have a USB or other connector type for a tablet or smartphone.
The monitor’s top section features a grid with the heart rate zones you should aim for depending on your age to benefit from a better aerobic output, fat burn, etc. Of course, this requires the usage of a separate HR monitoring device.
SF-B2916 Assembly and Maintenance
The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. Therefore, you only have to attach the two base bars, the handlebars’ swing tubes, the top sections of the handlebars, the pedal bars, the pedals, the monitor mast, the monitor, and the seat.
Therefore, it shouldn’t take more than an hour of your time. All the necessary tools for the task come with the bike, and the manual provides clear assembly instructions and details regarding the bike’s parts.
The bike’s internal parts are pre-lubricated in maintenance, but the internal chain may require lubrication.
The fan casing and the fan may accumulate dust, which can be removed by vacuuming the unit outside (you don’t have to take it apart). Other than this, checking for loose bolts and re-tighten them if needed periodically is advisable.
