XM16 Frame Construction
The JOROTO XM16 exercise bike features a triangular steel tubing frame. It combines rectangular and cylindrical steel tubes in its construction and offers a maximum user weight limit of 280 lbs (127 kg), which is decent for a home-use bike.
All the steel tubes in the bike’s construction have a black, durable, corrosion-resistant paint coating. The only exception is the flywheel, which has a chrome-plating finish.
Of course, the bike also integrates several plastic parts. The most notable ones are the cover of the drivetrain and the protective side panels of the flywheel. Furthermore, these are durable thermoplastic, black materials to fit the rest of the bike.
Although it’s an indoor cycling bike for home use, the JOROTO XM16 is relatively heavy. Its net weight is approx—79.3 lbs (36 kg). Therefore, two people should carry and assemble the bike. However, once completed, one person can move the bike as its front stabilizer features a set of transport wheels that facilitate its relocation if necessary.
The bike doesn’t take too much space. With all the parts assembled, it is approx—41.7″ (106 cm) long and 20″ (51 cm) wide. However, just as for any spin bike, it is advisable to leave at least two feet of clearance around it for easy access.
Seat and handlebars
The JOROTO XM16 indoor cycling bike includes a saddle for superior comfort. It is a heavy-duty nylon shell with a thick layer of foam padding, and its top cover is a vinyl and urethane combo, durable, and pretty easy to maintain. It is also contoured, with a groove in the center for improved breathability.
The saddle comes equipped with a standard, collar-type attachment system. Therefore, you can remove it and adjust its angle if you want, and many compatible options are available if you ever want to replace it.
It also has two springs in the rear, which add a bit of flex so that the seat will adapt better to your movement during seated workouts.
The bike’s seat is adjustable (up, down, front, back). Its vertical post has ten adjustment holes and offers an adjustment span of approx—9″ (23 cm). In addition, the horizontal slider offers six adjustment positions as well.
Therefore, the applicable inseam range for this exercise bike is 29.5″ – 39″ (75 – 99 cm). Thus, the bike comfortability accommodates users between 5’1″ and 6’5″ (155 – 196 cm).
The bike’s handlebar is also four-way adjustable. In addition, its vertical post has several adjustment holes, while its horizontal slider adds a few extra inches of front-to-back adjustment.
The design of the handlebar is standard. It offers three main grip possibilities (standard, climb, and racing). Its long sidebars feature high-density foam sleeves for an improved grip. Unfortunately, they do not have integrated HR pulse sensors, and the bike’s fitness monitor does not have a pulse reading function.
XM16 Resistance system
The JOROTO XM16 indoor cycling bike has a manual magnetic resistance system. The main advantage of this type of resistance system is that the brake does not touch the flywheel, so the bike delivers a frictionless, smooth, and quiet ride.
Also, since the bike’s resistance system requires manual adjustment, you don’t need a power cord or adapter for it. Furthermore, the cycle does not adjust the resistance automatically.
The resistance system consists of a magnetic brake attached to the frame’s main tube above the flywheel. This magnetic brake connects to the tension knob on top of the frame. For instance, when turning the knob clockwise, the brake moves closer to the flywheel, increasing the pedaling load.
The bike’s resistance system is stepless. The tension knob does not have any pre-determined levels. However, adjusting to the flywheel’s closest point generates a relatively decent pedaling difficulty simulating a hill climb.
The bike comes equipped with a heavy-duty, 3-piece crankset featuring long, oval arms similar to road bikes. The steel toe-caged pedals come with adjustable straps and buckles. Unfortunately, they do not have SPD elements for spin shoes. Still, their threads are 9/16, similar to most other pedals, so compatible options are widely available if you ever want to replace them.
The bike has a narrow Q-Factor (spacing between the pedals) of 175 mm (6.8 inches). For example, this ensures your feet are positioned naturally on the pedals without leading to any extra lateral stress on the knees and ankles.
The flywheel with the JOROTO XM16 weighs 30 lbs (13.6 kg). It is perimeter-weighted for improved inertia, which is excellent for spinning. In addition, it is also bi-directional. Therefore, you can pedal reverse if you want, but coasting is impossible on this bike.
When pedaling in reverse, you will get the same pedal resistance when pedaling forward, depending on the brake position.
Last but not least, this JOROTO exercise bike comes equipped with a belt drive system. It uses a durable poly-v belt resistant to stretching and abrasion. Since it’s a belt, not a chain, you don’t have to go through a lubricating hassle every few months. It does not require any lubrication.
XM16 Fitness monitor
The JOROTO XM16 indoor cycling bike includes a simple fitness console. For example, it does not have pre-set workout programs, Bluetooth, or online connectivity. Instead, it features an LCD that indicates time, speed, RPM, distance, and calories burned.
The speed and distance are in MPH and miles; there is no option for setting them to metric units. Unfortunately, the fitness monitor does not have a pulse reading function.
The fitness monitor features only one button. By repeatedly pressing the button, you can select the workout metric you want to view on display. You can also set the Scan Mode, which rotates all the metrics showing each one for approx. 6 seconds. The button also covers the monitor’s reset function. You can press and hold it for a few seconds to clear all the metrics to zero.
The monitor is battery-powered, and the batteries come included with the bike. It starts when you press the button or pedaling, and it automatically turns off after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike. It also has an integrated tablet holder but does not have any connection ports for it.
Assembly and Maintenance
The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the two base stabilizers, the seat post, the handlebar post, the fitness monitor, the handlebar, and the pedals.
Consequently, this shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes of your time. In addition, all the tools necessary for the assembly come included, and the manual provides precise assembly instructions.
Once assembled, maintenance doesn’t require much. You only have to wipe the sweat that might fall onto the frame at the end of the workout, keep the bike clean, periodically check for loose bolts or parts and retighten if necessary. The drivetrain does not require lubrication.
