SF-RW5622 Frame Construction
The Sunny SF-RW5622 features a steel frame with a reasonably durable rail with a maximum user weight capacity of 275 lbs (125 kg). In addition, all the steel parts in its construction come coated with a rust-resistant gray paint finish.
Also, the machine integrates several components of durable thermoplastic material. The most notable ones are the covers of the resistance system elements and the footrests.
This Sunny rower is not as bulky as other models but does have a reasonably long frame. With all the parts assembled, it is approx—72″ (183 cm) long and 21″ (53 cm) wide. The rail itself is 44″ (~111 cm), and the applicable inseam length for this machine is 40″ (101 cm). Therefore, the rower’s comfort accommodates up to 6’5″ (196 cm) with no problem.
The machine’s frame folds up. Likewise, the rail with the seat folds up, so the rower’s footprint remains 32″L x 21″W (81 x 53 cm), while its height reaches 4’2″ (125.7 cm).
Also, the rower is not too heavy. With all the parts assembled, its weight is approx. 64 lbs (~29 kg), one person can carry and build the rower. Plus, its front base stabilizer integrates a set of small wheels, which facilitate its relocation.
Seat
The Sunny dual-function magnetic rower has a seat that offers optimal comfort. Its top section consists of a pad of thick, high-density foam. In addition, the pad is contoured and textured to provide better positioning and improve contact.
The seat is relatively large. It is approximately 14″ (35.5 cm) wide and 11″ (28 cm), so it provides plenty of contact surface. Its base frame is steel-made and integrates three sets of wheels. Two slides are on top of the rail, while the third closes the seat frame assembly on the rail’s bottom, providing extra stability. The wheels have internal ball bearings and silicone rubber for smooth and quiet movement.
The machine’s rail is slanted. Therefore, it is slightly higher at the rear than at the front. So, at the highest point (at the back of the rail), the seat is approximately 11″ (28 cm) above floor level, while at its lowest point, its height is roughly 9″ (~23 cm).
SF-RW5622 Footrest and pulling handle
The Sunny SF-RW5622 rower has footplates attached under the rail’s front section. These footplates offer the possibility to perform bicep curls or standing rows without lifting the rower. For instance, this feature is quite a plus as not many other rowing machines in this price range have it.
The unit’s footrests are not length-adjustable but large enough to accommodate all athletic shoe sizes. They are a durable thermoplastic material. In addition, they have heel guards, a textured surface, and velcro straps so you can correctly secure your feet.
The footrests feature a pivoting design. Therefore, they can tilt forward and backward on their axis as you row. This way, you can slightly adjust the position of your feet during each stroke. In addition, the footrests also have stoppers at the rear. Thus, they won’t tilt backward past an angle of approximately 55° – 60°.
The pulling handle features a relatively short metallic bar with foam grips for improved comfort. However, it does not integrate resistance or other controls and is attached to a heavy-duty nylon strap that is highly resistant to abrasion.
Resistance system
The Sunny SF-RW5622 rowing machine has a standard magnetic resistance system with a manual action, so you don’t need a power adapter or an external power source. But unfortunately, it also cannot adjust the resistance automatically. So, instead, you always have to make the resistance adjustments yourself.
The resistance system consists of a magnetic brake connected to the internal flywheel and the tension dial visible on the front unit. Therefore, when you turn the dial, the brake moves closer or farther from the flywheel, increasing or decreasing the workout load.
The trainer makes available eight levels of resistance. The 8th tension level allows you to burn more calories and achieve a high cardio rate in a shorter time. However, the 1st tension level delivers a reasonably low resistance, which is excellent for anyone who wants to regain their stamina or recovery training.
Since it’s a full-magnetic rower with no air or water resistance elements, the Sunny SF-RW5622 machine does not offer a dynamic response during usage. Therefore, the resistance only depends on the selected level of the tension knob.
It does not relate to your stroke. For example, in a water-resistance rower, the resistance increases if you increase your stroke rate, while magnetic resistance remains constant regardless of your stroke rate.
Finally, this Sunny rowing machine is relatively quiet during usage. The brake elements do not touch, and it does not have a fan or a water tank. Thus, it generates little noise when in use.
Console
The Sunny SF-RW5622 rowing machine comes equipped with a fitness monitor. But unfortunately, it does not have pre-set workout programs or goal settings and cannot adjust the machine’s resistance.
The monitor features an LCD divided into two sections to show two workout metrics simultaneously. It tracks time, distance, count, total count, count per minute, and calories burned. Unfortunately, the monitor does not have a pulse reading function. In addition, the distance is in miles rather than meters.
The fitness monitor is relatively easy to use. It only has one button. You can select the workout metrics you want to view by repeatedly pressing the button. This way, you can also choose the console’s Scan Mode, which automatically rotates the metrics, showing them in 6 seconds.
The battery-operated fitness monitor requires two AA batteries. When you start rowing, it counts strokes, miles, calories, etc. In addition, it also automatically turns off after 4 minutes of inactivity on the machine.
SF-RW5622 Assembly and Maintenance
The front unit of the machine with the resistance system and the fitness console comes pre-assembled. So, in terms of assembly, you only have to connect the rail to the front part of the rower and add the seat, the rear stabilizer, the front stabilizer, the footrests, and the footplates.
Therefore, it shouldn’t take more than 30-40 minutes of your time. The manual provides clear assembly instructions, and all the necessary tools for the task come included with the machine.
For maintenance, it is advisable to keep the machine clean, wipe the sweat that may fall onto the frame, and ensure there aren’t any textile fibers or debris on the rail to prevent any damage to the wheels of the seat. The internal parts of the rower do not require any lubrication.

I am well over 275 lbs., which is the weight limit for this rowing machine. I am currently at 360 lbs. That is my main concern.
Although a friend told me he had used it for some time, and he’s my size. He told me it glides smoothly and works perfectly.
Hi Abel, thanks for stopping by and sharing with us. I suggest you take a look at the Concept2 Model E rower. It’s an air resistance rowing machine that has an impressive 500-pound weight capacity.
Would you please let me know if I can ever be of assistance? I’m glad to be of help.
Kind regards, Robert
I really like this equipment, it’s not heavy, unlike the standard equipment of this type, and I also checked the price, and it’s very affordable and durable. I’m getting this for my home gym. It seems very good and has very nice specifications. Thank you so much for sharing this equipment here. I appreciate this.

Robert,
I’ve read a bunch of your rower reviews covering magnetic, water, and air resistance types. Most of your reviews are positive. So here’s the question. Should one get magnetic, water, or air? Which brand do you think is best for the money in each type?
Thanks
Dave
Hi David, thanks for stopping by. The type of rowing machine comes down to personal preference. Air and water resistance rowing machines resemble the actual rowing through the water and are the choice of professional rowers and mine too! Concept2 is the best air resistance rowing machine. WaterRower and First Degree Fitness (FDF) are high-quality water resistance rowing machines. Magnetic rowing machines provide a continual resistance level no matter how hard the user pulls the handle. Magnetic rowing machines are virtually silent compared to air and water resistance rowers. Magnetic rowing machines are more affordable than other rowing machines, and many brands of comparable quality are available.
Kind regards, Robert
Your articles are always highly informative, and I like this one about the Sunny Magnetic Rowing Machine.
Many rowing machines I’ve used always have flaws, so this review of the RW5622 model made me question those flaws. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any, so my next step is to use one of them.
I will bookmark this site for future visits; thank you.

My favorite feature of this machine is that I can perform bicep curls and standing rows with it! I have not been able to find another machine in this price range with those features, so thank you for doing the research for me. I also love that I can wheel it around when pulled out of storage because I have to store my machine in a corner about 15 feet away from where I set the machine up for my workout. It is a shame the machine does not have preset workout functions built in because I used that a lot on my old machine, but I am sure there is an app for that nowadays! It makes up for it because it counts my time, distance, count, and calories burned. I can use my apple watch to track my heart rate, which is not a big issue. Thanks again; I am considering this machine.
