Valor Fitness BD-58 Squat Rack | Maximize Your Strength Training

The Valor Fitness BD-58 Squat Rack provides everything you need to maximize your home gym while keeping safety in mind. It features a 3″ x 3″ 11-gauge steel frame that provides strength and durability. In addition, it comes with a floor mount base to prevent movement in the frame, and it has a weight capacity of 750 lbs (340 kg).

Easily slide a bench into the frame to perform one of the most basic strength training exercises. J-hooks on either side can quickly rack the weight, while the safety bars provide safety if you can’t complete the lift. In addition, you can add the optional weightlifting platform, including the transition plate, to quickly move a bench in and out of the frame.

Use the Valor Fitness BD-58 Squat Rack to strengthen your lower body, including the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and even hip flexors. Rack the barbell on the J-hooks to seamlessly begin and end your workout. The optional weightlifting platform from bamboo boards ensures firm footing during intense, effective training.

The unique multi-grip pull-up station can add even more variety to your workout regimen. There is no shortage of ways to target the upper body muscles with six different hand grips. This versatile station can also adjust to the preferred height of the user. Utilize the Olympic bar storage on either side to open up space and execute your favorite pull-up exercise.

BD-58 Frame Construction

The Valor Fitness BD-58 squat rack features a heavy-duty 3″ x 3″, 11-gauge steel tubing frame. The mainframe features a durable black paint finish, while the j-hooks and safety bars have a gray paint finish. The pegs for the elastic resistance bands are stainless steel, while the plate storage pegs are chrome-plated.

The unit is not super large since it’s a half rack (not a full cage). Its assembled footprint is approx. 53″L x 50″W (135 x 127 cm). However, designed for Olympic-sized barbells 7-foot (213 cm) long, you should allow at least two feet of clearance on each side.

Also, if you work with a bench (not included), you will have to allow at least a few extra feet of clearance in the front of the rack.

The height of the rack is 86″ (218 cm). However, the top section with the pull-up bar assembly is adjustable and can exceed the height of the two main pillars. Thus, the rack can have a total height of 94″ (239 cm).

It won’t fit in a room with a 7-foot ceiling. Also, allowing at least one foot of clearance above the pull-up bar is advisable to execute all the pull-up exercises correctly.

The fully assembled rack is pretty heavy. Its net weight (without plates or barbells) is 277 lbs (125.6 kg). Therefore, it offers excellent stability, which you can continually improve further by adding weight plates on the storage pegs.

The base frame of the rack does not have adjustable levelers but does have pre-drilled holes so you can anchor it to the floor. It also has a curved bar at the rear for extra reinforcement.

The rack’s upright pillars feature 16 1-inch (2.54 cm) holes for attaching the j-hooks and safety bars. The rest of the holes, the ones for the bolts and nuts, are 1/2″ (1.27 cm) in diameter. Also, the bolts included with the rack are M12 (19 mm) bolts.

Lastly, the Valor Fitness BD-58 squat rack has a maximum load of 750 lbs (340 kg). Although multiple sources place it at 1,000 lbs (453.5 kg) capacity, Valor Fitness advises a maximum load of 750 lbs (340 kg). In addition, some users have reported using up to 450 lbs (204 kg) on this rack without any issues.

BD-58 Accessories and attachments

Most half-racks include j-hooks and safety bars, and the Valor Fitness BD-58 squat rack makes no exception. The safety bars are 23″ (58.4 cm) long, so they shouldn’t have any problem catching and holding a heavy bar during a failed squat.

They have six holes each for the elastic resistance band pegs. They’re equipped with spring action safety pins, while the j-hooks have screw pins to secure them. The j-hooks and the safety bars are rubberized to prevent damage to the paint finish and reduce the noise when you place a heavy bar on them.

The Valor BD-58 rack includes four long pins that insert into the holes of the safety bars. They support elastic resistance bands for extra stability and resistance during squats or other elastic band exercises. Unfortunately, elastic bands do not come with the rack. Also, the frame has particular attachment points for the four elastic band pins.

The multi-grip pull-up bar assembly is firmly attached to this Valor Fitness BD-58 squat rack. It offers the possibility to perform pull-ups or chin-ups with a wide grip, close parallel grip, oblique grip, or a standard grip.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, its height is adjustable. The upright pillars of the rack feature six attachment holes for the pull-up bar assembly so you can connect it at three different heights, with the highest at approximately 94″ (239 cm) and the lowest at 79″ (200.6 cm). The distance between the bar’s curved grips’ endpoints is about—48″ (122 cm).

The rack includes six weight plate storage posts (three for each side) on the rear upright bars of the frame. They are for Olympic plates (with 2″ holes) only.

The distance between them is 19″ (48.2 cm), with the lowest at approximately 13″ (33 cm) above the floor. Each weight post holds about 225 lbs (102 kg), and you can load 5 to 6 weight plates on each post.

Finally, the rack includes two Olympic bar holders. They attach to the upper sections of the support pillars. It’s important to note that the Valor Fitness BD-58 squat rack does not include a barbell or weight plates.

Of course, you can always add a bench to this squat rack and perform chest presses and other exercises that require a bench/rack combo. However, it’s important to note that a lat machine attachment is unavailable for this particular Valor Fitness rack. It also does not have an attachment point for a landmine add-on.

BD-58 Assembly and Maintenance

The Valor Fitness BD-58 squat rack comes packed in four boxes, the heaviest one weighing 75 lbs (34 kg). It requires complete user assembly, but the whole task is pretty straightforward. You will have to start with the base of the rack, add the upright pillars, close the frame with the pull-up bar assembly, then add the rest of the attachments and accessories.

The whole process shouldn’t take more than two hours of your time, and the manual provides precise assembly instructions.

Once assembled, you don’t have to worry too much about maintenance. However, it is advisable to wipe off any sweat droplets that may fall onto the frame at the end of the workout. You should also periodically inspect the rack, check for loose bolts and parts, and re-tighten them.

  3. Thank you for the informative review on the Valor Fitness BD-58 Squat Rack, Robert, this is a sturdy piece of exercise equipment, and readers will do well to follow your helpful recommendation.

The key to any good squat rack, other than the requisite durability to sustain the weight it will be subjected to, is whether there are appropriate adjustments built into the rack to accommodate all contingencies for possible variables in height and size of the person using the rack.

This rack seems more than sufficient, with at least three adjustable implements on each side. I look forward to seeing how it functions in use!
