The NordicTrack T 9.5 S might be just what you’ve been looking for if you want a machine that can put in the miles and doesn’t skimp on the bells and whistles. The NordicTrack T 9.5S treadmill is an excellent entry-level commercial option for those looking for a little more heavy-duty than your average home gym model.
The 3.6 CHP motor means that this machine is ready to handle even the most serious runners without breaking a sweat. With a 12mph top speed and a 12% incline, whatever your workout regimen calls for, the T 9.5 S has you covered.
The Smart HD Touchscreen is the largest display on the T series models. Therefore, it is also a significant factor in the price you will pay. Additionally, the screen’s clarity and responsiveness make it ideal for immersing yourself in many great features available through iFit.
This treadmill comes with 50 onboard programs. So, if you don’t maintain your iFit membership after the initial trial year has elapsed, you’ll still have plenty of different programming options. Therefore, it’s ideal for anyone interested in keeping boredom at bay and incorporating plenty of variety into their training regime.

T 9.5 S Frame
The NordicTrack T 9.5 S treadmill features a heavy-duty steel structural frame. Its deck supports users up to 300 lbs (136 kg), which is not bad for a non-commercial machine.
It’s also a large unit; with the frame fully assembled, it weighs over 200 lbs (90.7 kg), and all this weight reflects its overall stability. So you can be sure that the treadmill won’t rock or move even if you run at full speed.
All the steel parts in the machine’s frame construction have a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used for the base frame is black, while the two upright masts have a gray paint finish.
This NordicTrack treadmill is relatively large. Fully setup, it’s approximately 79″ (200 cm) long and 35.5″ (90 cm) wide. It is advisable to leave at least two clearance feet on each side and three at the rear. Thus, the machine may not be the best choice for a small room or apartment.
T 9.5 S Deck
The unit’s deck has a folding design, though. It has the NordicTrack EasyLift folding mechanism, which involves a hydraulic cylinder. This element assists you with lowering or folding the deck up, supporting most of its weight.
With the deck folded up, the machine’s length is approximately 40″ (102 cm), while its height becomes approximately 71.6″ (182 cm).
The deck offers a reasonably large running surface; it measures 60″L x 20″W (152.4 x 51 cm), which should be enough for users up to 6’5″ (196 cm). It uses a multi-ply belt with a rubberized, non-slip top layer. The internal rollers are 1.9″ in diameter. They’re non-flex and crowned to provide superior traction and a longer lifespan for the belt.
Last but not least, the machine’s deck integrates FlexSelect cushioning elements. Each side of the deck has three cushions, which can provide up to 40% shock absorption. Each cushion element is adjustable. You can reduce or increase its flexibility with a simple left or right rotation.
Incline and step-up height
The NordicTrack T 9.5 S has an automatic (motorized) incline system. It consists of a small motor and a lever system at the front of the deck. As you select a certain incline level, the levers lift the deck’s front part, changing the running surface’s slope. The machine does not have decline settings, as do some NordicTrack models.
The machine’s incline range is 0%-12%. Differently put, the maximum incline is approximately 9°. The incline increments are 1%. The console provides quick selection keys from 0% to 12%, but the lower keypad also controls gradual incline adjustment. Depending on their setup, some of the onboard and iFit programs will also automatically adjust the incline.
The step-up height of the deck is approximately 11″ (28 cm). The incline setup will also elevate the deck’s front part by a few extra inches. Therefore, it is advisable to use the machine in a room with a ceiling at least 20″ (51 cm) higher than your height.
T 9.5 S Drive motor
The NordicTrack T 9.5 S integrates a 3.6 CHP DurX™ Commercial Plus motor. In addition, it’s equipped with a small flywheel to minimize vibration and with its cooling system. Therefore, you can be sure that the machine won’t overheat or lose performance for the whole workout.
The unit’s motor provides a speed range between 0.5 and 12 MPH. The console offers quick speed controls from 0 to 12 MPH, but gradual speed controls are also on the bottom keypad. In addition, the arrow controls for the continuous speed adjustment are bi-functional.
If pressed once, they will adjust speed by 0.1 MPH; if you press and hold a key down, the tread belt’s velocity will change in increments of 0.5 MPH. The fact that you can adjust speed in increments of 0.1 is quite a plus, as you can easily find the most comfortable pace for your workout.
The motor itself is reasonably quiet. But like any other treadmill, your running cadence will generate noise. In an apartment building, your neighbors will hear you running.
Last but not least, the treadmill requires a standard 120V circuit. It has a standard power cord for American-type outlets, not an AC adapter. The connector is situated at the front of the deck, next to the On/Off switch.
Console
This treadmill has a more advanced console than the older T 6.5 S model. First, it has a large, 14″ diagonal LCD, full color, with LED backlight and touchscreen technology. It responds to similar commands as a tablet or smartphone. However, you cannot install apps on it or browse the web. It can only stream videos through iFit.
The console offers full integration with iFit and comes with a 1-year membership. It also has wireless connectivity. Therefore, it can connect to your Wi-Fi to access the iFit workout database, run via trails based on Google Maps, or benefit from Live Interactive training.
But the console has its database of workout programs. It has 50 preset programs in its memory, offering all types of workouts focusing on weight loss, high-intensity cardio, intervals, stamina development, and much more.
The console display tracks all the important workout metrics, including time, distance, calories, pulse, speed, and incline. The speed and distance have a default setting to imperial units (MPH and miles). However, metric units are also available (km/h, km).
You can use the sensors integrated into the front bar or a wireless HR chest strap for pulse reading. However, the wireless HR chest strap accessory is not (included).
We can mention the sound system and workout fan in terms of other features. The sound system consists of two 2″ digitally amplified speakers under the LCD. You can sync it with your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth to listen to your music through it. The fan is an AutoBreeze™ type, integrated under the speakers; it has several speeds and does provide a reasonably decent cooling effect.
T 9.5 S Assembly and Maintenance
The machine’s deck is assembled with its rollers, belt, motors, and other elements. Therefore, you only need to attach the front masts, the accessory tray, the handlebars, and the console.
Therefore, it shouldn’t take more than 30-40 minutes. All the tools necessary for the task are (included), and the manual provides unambiguous assembly instructions.
For maintenance, even though the belt is pre-lubricated with high-grade industrial lubricants from the factory, it may require extra lubrication after a while. Besides, it would be best to keep the running belt clean and free of dirt, textile fibers, or other objects that might be dragged under it and caught in the motor.

Hey there, I commented on one of your other reviews. I am still looking into upgraded gym equipment for my local gym. The treadmills that they have right now are getting worn out. Some of them don’t even have the stop keys anymore. Anyways, I am checking out the specs on this NordicTrack T 9.5 S Treadmill you have reviewed here.
I like the large screen that comes on this one. I am looking to see if this is a headphone compatible. I am sure something this advanced would have such a feature. In an open gym, the sound could get muffled if you are even able to hear it in the first place. I like the included 50 workout programs, and this should keep the members interested in their workout and keep them coming back for more.
Thanks for your review. I will be talking to the gym manager soon.
Hi Kenny. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The equipped sound system on the NordicTrack T 9.5 S can be synced via Bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet. Therefore, you would be able to use headphones.
All the best!
