SF-T7917 Frame Construction

Like most other treadmills, the Sunny SF-T7917 has a steel frame. In addition, it’s base and deck support users up to 265 lbs (120 kg), which is not bad for a home-use machine. All the steel bars come powder-coated in their construction with a rust-resistant and chip-resistant paint finish, gray and black.

The machine’s body integrates a few ABS parts as well. The most notable ones are the motor cover, the side rail covers, and the console dashboard.

The fully assembled treadmill is smaller than other models. It is approximately 69″ (175 cm) long and 32″ (81 cm) wide. Its highest point is the console’s top, which reaches 56″ (142 cm) above floor level. Therefore, leaving at least three feet of clearance at the rear of the deck and at least two feet on each side is advisable for its safe usage and ease of access.

The Sunny SF-T7917 treadmill is relatively heavy. It weighs approx. 148 lbs (67 kg), so two people should carry the boxed unit. However, once assembled, its front base frame integrates a set of wheels for relocation.

Deck

This Sunny treadmill is foldable. Its deck can fold up to save space. With the deck folded, the machine’s length reduces to 32″ (81 cm), while its height gains approx. one inch. The folding mechanism consists of a hydraulic cylinder, which is helpful when unfolding the deck as it slows its lowering, preventing damage to the deck or the floor.

Compared to other treadmills in this price and feature range, the Sunny SF-T7917 has a unique cushioning system.

Two significant cushioning elements are visible on each side of the deck, and one other pair is at the treadmill’s front. They reduce the shock generated during each foot strike. Therefore, running on this machine will result in less workout-related joint pain.

The treadmill comes equipped with a multi-ply belt designed to provide superior adherence to any athletic shoes. In addition, it offers a running surface of 52″L x 19″W (132 x 48 cm).

Therefore, the machine accommodates users up to 6’3″ (190 cm), allowing a complete stride during running. Thus, the machine’s platform shouldn’t be restrictive for walking workouts for users of any size, as long as they don’t exceed the 265 lbs (120 kg) weight limit.

SF-T7917 Incline and step-up height

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7917 treadmill has a motorized incline system. Therefore, you can adjust the incline during workouts; the machine has several workout programs that automatically adjust the incline.

The machine’s incline system comprises a metallic lift under the front deck and a separate drive motor. The motor will activate the lift and elevate or lower the deck’s front as you adjust the incline, or the console automatically adjusts.

There are 15 levels available, and the maximum incline level offers a ramp of approximately 15 °. There are gradual adjustment controls on the console integrated into the left grip, and they’re also quick incline selection keys on the console for the 3, 6, and 9 incline levels.

The deck’s step-up height is approximately—11″ (28 cm) when the incline is 0%—conversely, the deck’s front gains a few inches in size with the highest incline level. Therefore, to avoid any ceiling height issues, make sure that the ceiling height in the room where you’ll be using the machine is at least 22″ – 23″ (56-58 cm) higher than your size.

Drive motor

The Sunny Performance SF-T7917 treadmill has a 2.5 HP motor to support prolonged workouts at top speeds without overheating or losing performance. It also has a small flywheel for improved motion stability and reduced vibration.

The unit’s motor offers a speed range between 0.6 and 10 MPH. In addition, the speed adjustment increments are 0.1 MPH allowing you to adapt your pace when changing the speed quickly.

The console offers controls for gradual and quick speed adjustments like the incline. For example, the quick selection speed controls are 2 MPH, 4 MPH, and 6 MPH.

Sunny Performance SF-T7917 Treadmill

The Sunny SF-T7917 needs an external power source (120V) connection like any other motorized treadmill. Therefore, it features a cable with a US-type (3-prong) plug. The connector and the On/Off switch are at the front of the deck.

In terms of generated noise, this treadmill is not too loud. The motor itself is not noisy, but when running on the deck, the sound of your cadence will make noise, especially if you are close to the maximum specified user capacity (265 lbs).

Regarding power consumption, the machine shouldn’t add more than a few dollars a month to your electricity bill, even with daily use.

SF-T7917 Console

The Sunny Performance SF-T7917 treadmill comes equipped with a fitness console. It features an LCD with an LED backlight for improved readability. The display divides into multiple sub-sections to view all the workout metrics. It shows time, distance, speed, incline, calories burned, and pulse.

The speed and distance are in MPH and miles. Unfortunately, the console cannot read your pulse from an HR chest strap transmitter. So, to benefit from a pulse reading, you must hold on to the sensors integrated into the machine’s side grips.

Like many other Sunny treadmills, the SF-T7917 model doesn’t have online connectivity, nor is it compatible with any online fitness apps. However, it offers a pretty consistent base of programs.

First, the Manual Program allows you to adjust the speed and incline during the workout. Also, you can select target values for the Manual Program for time, distance, and calories burned.

Next, the console offers 15 workout programs. These are all interval-based, and they automatically adjust both the speed and incline of the deck. Each program divides into 20 sections, and you can select a time for each section to have a duration of the chosen time divided by 20.

Three custom user programs and a BMI function also come included. The console allows you to create and save three programs with speed and incline settings. This feature is helpful if three other persons use the machine to keep their program settings. The BMI (Body Mass Index) program calculates your body fat percentage based on age, height, weight, and gender.

Amenities

The machine’s console makes available several other notable functions. I count the sound system, the USB port, the tablet holder, and the accessory trays. The sound system consists of two speakers, one on each side of the console. It connects to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth and lets you play music through the integrated speakers.

The USB port is only for device charging purposes. Unfortunately, you cannot export your workout data via cable or USB stick. The tablet holder consists of a small shelf under the console display. The space between this shelf and the display is relatively wide so that a tablet won’t cover your workout data.

And finally, the two accessory trays mold into the console dashboard; they are large enough to accommodate hydration bottles or other small accessories you might want to have while you’re running.

SF-T7917 Assembly and Maintenance

This Sunny treadmill comes pre-assembled. You only have to unfold it, tighten the two bars that sustain the console upright, and plug the machine in. Consequently, this shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. All the necessary instructions are in the manual, and all the tools needed come with the machine.

In terms of maintenance, the belt needs to be lubricated periodically. Although it comes pre-lubricated, you should add a bit of extra lubricant before the first use. A bottle of oil comes with the treadmill. In addition, cleaning the belt would help prevent any debris from being caught in the motor.

  1. I work out at the Kempsville Recreation Center in Virginia Beach, VA, and I use the Life Fitness Treadmill while I’m there. It allows you to connect to Netflix or Hulu and pick your calories to burn, your terrain to run, and the incline you want, whether flat, rolling hills, or random. I have been seriously looking at purchasing my own. Which one do you recommend that is most affordable and efficient at the same time? Are you aware or familiar with Life Fitness equipment?

    • Hi Timothy, thanks for stopping by and inquiring about Life Fitness. Yes, I am aware of the brand. There are club-quality machines and expensive.

May I suggest that you look at the new Bowflex Treadmill 10 or the Bowflex Treadmill 22? They have all of the features that you talked about and are much more affordable.

Would you please let me know if I can ever be of assistance? I’d be glad to help.

      Kind regards,

      Robert

  2. There are several things I like and one that I dislike. So let me start with what I feel is a flaw. And it’s the absence of a heart rate program.
But I feel they nail it with all the other features. I like the sturdy construction and that it’s foldable for storage. But what I like the most are the cushioning elements integrated into the deck.

  4. I have used a treadmill for most of my life.  However, now that I live in a warm climate, I prefer to walk outside other than during inclement weather.  This Sunny Performance machine looks great.  Your description shows enough set programs to provide a continuous challenge.  The fact that you can select the time for each module is excellent.  The machines that I have used in the past did not allow for running up to 10 mph.  Presently, I don’t have a treadmill because of my outdoor activity, but this seems like a great machine to have on hand when walking outside isn’t possible.  Thanks for the comprehensive description.

  5. We have an old treadmill at home that is an embarrassment to what you have shown here. The features I liked most about this treadmill are the foldability to store it in less space, the cushion base that makes it easy on the feet, and the ability to adjust the incline. It was also great to know how sturdy this machine is and the more than sufficient power to run it without overloading.

Best of all was the price.
